Austria's capital is a popular language travel destination for all age groups.

Vienna lies in north-eastern Austria close to the border of the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary, with the Danube River weaving through the city.
It is divided into 23 districts, at the heart of which is the historic centre, the “Innenstadt”, rich in magnificent architecture including the Stephansdom and Stephansplatz, the Hofburg, baroque castles and ornate gardens.
Experience Vienna’s historic past
It was home to famous composers and musicians including Beethoven, Schubert and Mozart, and the Viennese grand balls are popular to this day (there are over 200 annually).
Sigmund Freud, the neurologist and father of psychoanalysis, was another famous Viennese resident and has a museum dedicated to him. Other museums and galleries worth visiting are the Leopold Museum, Art History Museum, Vienna Museum and Belvedere.
The MuseumsQuartier (MQ) is one of the ten largest cultural quarters in the world, with unrivalled collections of works by Bruegel, Klimt and Schiele.
Lots to do in Vienna
Vienna has many green spaces - half the city is parkland and the Vienna Woods offer a great opportunity to enjoy the outdoors.
In winter it is possible to ski and snowboard at Hohe Wand Wiese, Hirschenkogel, Otscher, Gastein and Stuhleck. The Austrian capital is great for shopping, too, with designer shops and many markets offering locally produced products. The Christmas markets, so much a part of German-speaking culture, have a traditionally festive feel.

For nightlife, a good place to head is Nußdorferstraße, its many bars and clubs are popular with local students.
Food lovers will find a wide choice of restaurants and bistros (known as “beisls”) in Neubau and Josefstadt, where they might try the famous Wienerschnitzel. Street food is popular and small stands are found on most streets serving a variety of sausages and potato fritters. Coffee and cake are simply part of the Viennese way of life, enjoyed in cafes and traditional coffee houses throughout the city.
