Bray is located only 13 miles from Dublin city centre, yet this peaceful seaside resort is vastly different than the bustling city. The largest town in County Wicklow, Bray is known as the Gateway to the Garden of Ireland.
Bray is the longest established seaside town in Ireland and its scenic promenade dates back to the Victorian era. It runs from the harbour near the childhood home of James Joyce all the way to Bray Head and is the reason why Bray is also known as the “Brighton of Ireland.” Take a walk along the promenade, enjoy some live music in one of the pubs or get an ice cream in the summertime and relax on the sea front.
One of the main advantages of learning English in Bray is the seaside and simply enjoying the laid-back atmosphere of this quiet resort, while having Dublin within easy reach for a day trip or its nightlife.
Bray has a lot to offer
In addition to water sports and outdoor activities, there are culture, evening entertainment, country walks, quaint cafes, and shops. If you're adventurous, take in the stunning scenery at one of the region's most popular attractions, the famous Cliff Walk. It takes about 2 hours to walk around the cliffs to cliff walk. During the journey you will see grey common seals, sea birds, and sometimes porpoises and dolphins.
The National Marine Life Centre has a large and fascinating collection of 70 species of freshwater organisms, as well as marine life. The National Marine Life Centre exhibits beautifully recreate the natural habitat of sea creatures.

Festivals include the Bray Air Show and Kilruddery Film Festival, and, during May Bank Holiday, the Bray Jazz Festival, when some fantastic musicians come to perform in the seaside town. It is the longest established and largest weekend showcase of contemporary jazz music in the Greater Dublin Area.
The weekly farmer’s market is also a “must-do” in Bray. It takes place in front of the heritage centre and plenty of local farmers and artisans will be selling their unique produce and cuisine – it’s a dream come true if you are the foodie type.

Culture and entertainment hub
The hub of culture in Bray is the Mermaid County Wicklow Art Centre, an art gallery, cinema, and theatre. It hosts several excellent gigs and events including music, poetry, modern experimental plays, art house movies and more. The art gallery has a constantly changing exhibition that features the latest European and Irish works.
Bray is also the hub of Ireland’s film industry and the base for Ardmore Studios. Tom Cruise is one of many famous actors who has filmed here.
