Located in the South Eastern region of the main island, Valletta was established in the 1500s by St John as a refugee for soldiers returning from crusades. Known for its grand churches, beautiful palaces, glorious Baroque architecture, you could call Valletta an open museum. Sprinkled with quaint cafes and wine bars, Valletta has become Malta’s main tourist attraction and a treasure to priceless paintings. It is also home to the majestic St John’s Pro-Cathedral (a church with cathedral status though not being the main cathedral). Despite its small size, Valletta is home to over 25 churches.
A small city bursting with beauty
This historically significant destination is both picturesque and brimming with history while retaining much of its 16th- century elegance. The beautiful old town still has a lot of its traditional Maltese qualities, with mesmerising 17th-century buildings and piazzas to visit accompanied by a great selection of first-rate restaurants and cafes.

Valletta’s unique setting plays host to several cultural events, from theatre to concerts by leading opera singers. During the day the streets are bustling with business and as the day comes to an end, the nights shift into a slower gear. You can get away from the noise. Take a stroll, admire the gentle lighting that illuminates the streets.
Valletta is a compact city and UNESCO recognised the city as a world heritage site, describing it as ‘one of the most concentrated historic areas in the world’. The Renzo Piano, designed City Gate, Parliament Building and Opera House gives an alternative to the historical buildings that decorate the city, Valetta has also been recognised with the status of European Capital of Culture for 2018!
