Totnes is a beautiful historic town set in the heart of South Devon’s picturesque countryside. Close to Dartmoor and the coast, Totnes brings its own magical charm to the county. Overlooking the River Dart stands Totnes Castle, one of the best-preserved examples of a Norman motte and bailey castle in England.

Today the town is thriving for its art, music, culture, and unique markets. Each Tuesday morning throughout the summer is the Elizabethan Market where traders and locals dress up in Elizabethan costume, drawing in crowds. Once a month the towns famous Good Food Sunday Market offers ethical and wholefoods from local producers.
In 2007, Totnes became the first town in the UK to introduce their own local currency! Totnes pounds are notes printed and traded locally within 70 businesses. The idea is to promote links between local businesses and strengthen the local economy.
There are independent cafes, restaurants, pubs, and wine bars to suit every taste. Totnes is the perfect place to experience a classic cream tea, with plenty of unique, friendly coffee shops to choose from. Cream before the jam is the Devon way.

As well as the friendly people, the tranquil atmosphere of the town will leave students feeling relaxed and inspired to learn about its rich history while also exploring Devon’s natural beauty.
There are also lots of exciting sporting activities on offer such as kite surfing, sea kayaking, canoeing and stand up paddle boarding. In the evening students can watch live music at one of the many bars along the river which hold regular jazz nights, folk sessions, and open mic nights.
