Byron Bay is the place to study English and dive, surf, watch wildlife or simply chill out in a friendly, laid-back community in beautiful surroundings.

For anyone seeking an English course outside of Australia’s cities, paradise beckons on Cape Byron, the country’s most easterly point. 

Byron Bay is a popular tourist town with a relaxed, bohemian lifestyle, gorgeous beaches and an unspoilt green hinterland. With summer temperatures of 21C - 28C and winter temperatures of 15C - 21C, locals and visitors enjoy year-round outdoor activities including water-sports, hiking, biking and many festivals. 

The scenery attracts sky divers, and the temperate, tropical waters are good for scuba diving and snorkelling. Subtropical rainforests and the Nightcap National Park are within easy reach.

Diving

Byron Bay started out as a whaling station and fishing port, but when surfers arrived in the 1960s, it was the beginning of Byron Bay as a tourist destination and hippie community. Today, it’s an alternative, eco-aware community with many holistic and cultural businesses and a growing population of artists, writers and filmmakers.

The beaches are why many people come to learn English in Byron Bay.  They are dotted with lighthouses and surrounded by dolphins, rays, whales and turtles.

There’s Belongil Beach, stretching from Byron Bay to beyond Belongil Creek, with the wreck of the SS Wollongbar. Main Beach is directly in front of the town and dominated by the Surf Club. The Pass is the most popular surf break, while the Bay at Clarkes Beach is ideal for windsurfing, body boarding and paragliding. Here in winter, humpback whales have been seen returning to the Antarctic. Watego's and Little Watego's are sheltered spots for sunbathing and swimming. At Cosy Corner, hang-gliders may swoop down from overhead!

Byron Bay has plenty of gigs, clubs and parties by night, and festivals and markets by day. The Community Market is worth a few hours: brightly coloured stalls over several acres are crammed with handicrafts, locally-grown produce and art.  The monthly Byron Bay Market has great bands, hundreds of craft stalls and delicious food and drink. The Byron Artisan Market, a small night market in the town centre, is a popular place to experience the culture and vibrancy of the Byron Bay community.
