On the south coast of England, the popular seaside town of Bournemouth is an ideal place for an English language course.
Bournemouth not only has the beach, the ocean, the coastal walks, and views, but also a vibrant nightlife, great places to eat and plenty of exciting social and cultural activities.
It’s one of the most popular places in the UK to learn English, so it’s lively by day and by night. Yet it’s also a traditional English seaside town, popular with British tourists too.
Bournemouth has so much to offer!
Formerly an area of wild heathlands where fishermen caught their daily catch, Bournemouth is now a hub for students, tourists, and families, as well as a regional centre of business in the UK. Its coastline stretches to nearby Poole and on to the Jurassic Coast, a World Heritage Site stretching 95 miles, known for its fossils and beauty, and for inspiring some of Britain’s most famous literature.
Learning English in Bournemouth is never dull, thanks to the large population of British and international students.
Language schools, universities and an art college give Bournemouth a youthful buzz and there are plenty of ways to spend your free time. For culture, visit the Russell-Cotes Art Gallery and Museum. The former home of a Victorian collector, this exotic villa houses works by Rossetti, Landseer and Frith, and its grounds offer fine views of Bournemouth beach.

The Bournemouth International Centre is a major conference, events, and entertainment venue in the centre of town and the Pavilion Theatre and Ballroom presents West End shows, opera and ballet, pantomime, comedy, and concerts. Bournemouth’s year-round nightlife is famous, and festivals throughout the seasons celebrate art, food, and music.
Bournemouth’s seven miles of sandy beaches are a clean and a fun place to meet new people, practise sport or catch up on your reading.
Throughout the town you’ll also find quaint parks and gardens - perfect for picnics in the summer or foraging in the autumn.
If you’re in search of a traditional experience, try a typically English afternoon tea, or wander along the promenade for fish and chips, or have a pint of real ale in one of Bournemouth’s many pubs.
Many activities to enjoy from
The Coastal Activity Park, which stretches over 1km on either side of Boscombe Pier just to the east of Bournemouth, offers a wide range of activities on land, beach and sea, including bodyboarding, kayaking, orienteering, sailing and surfing, as well as spa treatments.
Bournemouth’s seven-mile promenade is ideal for cycling on the flat. Or for more challenging routes, go further afield to see Corfe Castle, iconic survivor of the English Civil War, on the nearby Isle of Purbeck, or catch a glimpse of the natural limestone arch, Durdle Door. You could also hire a car to visit some quintessentially English villages and more of the coastline.
